Salary: N/A (unpaid opportunity)

Reports to: Kevin Byrnes, Program Supervisor - Communications

Work Hours: 15-20 hours/week; exact schedule to be determined before start date

Position Summary

This is a wonderful opportunity for a college student who aspires for a career in public relations or journalism. The intern will benefit from authentic opportunities and hands-on experiences in writing, planning, and resesarch. The intern will gain experience working in a fast-paced environment for the state's largest public school system and will develop a solid foundation for employment in the field post graduation. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience writing for a college or community newspaper
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office with the ability to learn new online platforms quickly
  • Enrolled and in good standing as a junior or senior at an accredited college or university seeking a degree in a communications or journalism related major
  • Possess strong customer service and communication skills

Essential Functions

  • Research issues relevant to DPSCD that can be turnkeyed into communication collateral
  • Write content for possible use on DPSCD's platforms
  • Provide on-site location support
  • Assist with administrative functions 
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor
