Position Title: Manager, Class B - Office of School Nutrition

Location:  Various School Locations, High Schools

Salary Details: $19.51 per hour

Reports to: Director of Operations, Office of School Nutrition

Bargaining Unit: NISP

In accordance with the Agreement between the Non-Instructional Supervisory Personnel and the School District of the City of Detroit, Article XV, Promotions and Transfers, the following vacancy is announced.

Position Summary:

The role of the B Manager is to communicate effectively with staff and assure that guidelines of district are followed.  The B Manager provide good customer service with exceptional skills to incorporate so that the Office of School Nutrition program can continue to feed the child of DPSCD. Initialize professionalism with students, staff and administration throughout the district.  This role is also responsible for assuring that compliance is maintained when ordering food to distribute to the children.

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • High School graduate or G.E.D. Certificate.
  • ServSafe Certification
  • Must have worked in school-based cafeteria setting.  Must have demonstrated the ability to work and communicate with others in a leadership capacity.  Alternate B Manager experience preferred.
  • Must have knowledge of food preparation and kitchen safety. Ability to plan, organize, assign, supervise and inspect the work of others.  Ability to use good judgment and make sound decisions. Be enthusiastic and have a pleasing personality.

Essential Functions

  1. Plan and direct the operation of the kitchen.
  2. Communicate with the school and the department objectives, policies and procedures to staff, administrators, community, parents and students.
  3. Inform principals and supervisors of activities, progress and problems of the kitchen.
  4. Create and maintain good employee morale and relationships.
  5. Establish an atmosphere in which students will be encouraged to eat.
  6. Responsible for planning, attending and conducting staff meetings.
  7. Maintain an efficient operation and assure compliance with policies and procedures.
  8. Conduct on the job training for all employees.
  9. Submit accurate, timely records and reports as required.
  10. Assist the Food Service Central Office staff in development of policies and
  11. Planning, supervision and preparation of food production and service to meet U.S.D.A. regulations and requirements for Breakfast and Lunch Programs.
  12. Prepare scheduling for employees to cover all stations.
  13. Accurate ordering and receiving of all food and paper supplies.
  14. Submit an accurate Payroll when due.
  15. Maintain production records are through submitting monthly inventory.
  16. Cook and maintain food productions.
  17. And other duties as assigned by supervisor or designee.

Security Clearance:

Internal Applicants

If you are a current Detroit Public Schools Community District employee, you do not have to submit to a new security clearance, unless your new role requires a different type of criminal background check.
