Location: TBD, regular in-person reporting will be required in addition to engaging with the community online.

Salary Details: $83,500 base salary + salary differentials based on school demographics

Reports to: Principal

Position Summary:

The Assistant Principal - K-12 Online School in DPSCD will be responsible for working with the Principal and school leadership team to ensure rigorous and standards-aligned teaching and learning in a primarily online setting. The Assistant Principal will assist in establishing a positive online culture for students, staff and families and ensure a rigorous education for all students attending virtually. The Assistant Principal must be well-versed in DPSCD’s online learning platforms including Microsoft Teams and Schoology and will collect regular feedback from students, families and staff to improve online learning at the school.

Successful applicants may participate in a screening interview and be placed in an eligibility pool and notified later when an opening is available.    

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must possess and provide evidence of a master’s degree from an accredited institution
  • Must possess a valid Michigan teacher certificate
  • Must possess a valid Michigan administrator certificate
  • Demonstrated experience teaching and/or leading in a virtual/online environment

Essential Functions:

  1. Assist with the implementation of all expectations of school operations through online format.
  2. Supervise school personnel for the purpose of monitoring performance, providing professional growth and achieving overall objectives of the school’s goals.
  3. Model, identify, discuss and provide feedback on effective pedagogical strategies, particularly engagement strategies in an online setting.
  4. Supervise instruction, review lesson plans, monitor online instruction and provide teachers with actionable feedback.
  5. Provide professional development opportunities and establish Professional Learning Communities focused on closing the achievement gap and improving student outcomes.
  6. Develop and implement programs aligned with the School Improvement Plan and the District’s academic strategy.
  7. Interpret, review, and monitor data systems relative to student assessments.
  8. Use the student information system to create, monitoring, and review schedules, reports, and student data.
  9. Communicates relevant policies and procedures with regard to student discipline, conduct, and attendance to students, staff and parents, including specific expectations for online learning and online engagement.
  10. Contact and communicate directly with parents/guardians on a regular basis to ensure parent awareness of and involvement in their child’s school performance, including specific expectations for engaging online.
  11. Conduct teacher observations and assist with the performance evaluation process.
  12. Work and collaborate effectively with teachers and other school-based personnel in-person and online to develop and implement individual student support plans.
  13. Assist with the management of the school’s operational processes (i.e., budgeting, facility maintenance, grant compliance, scheduling, etc.)
  14. Maintain accurate data, records, etc. to document all activities conducted and services provided
  15. Perform other duties as deemed necessary by the principal.

 

Security Clearance:

Internal Applicants

If you are a current Detroit Public Schools Community District employee, you do not have to submit to a new security clearance, unless your new role requires a different type of criminal background check.
