Salary: Step 15 on the DFT Salary Schedule

             Master’s Level – $79,289 Annual

  Master’s +30 – $79,989 Annual

             Doctorate - $80,289 Annual

Reports to: Executive Director of K-12 Social Studies

Bargaining Unit: DFT

In accordance with the Agreement between Detroit Federation of Teachers and the Board of Education of the School District of the City of Detroit, the following vacancy is announced.

Position Summary:

The Training and Support Coordinator position will develop resources to support teachers in best instructional practices in alignment with state standards and our vision for excellent instruction. These resources include professional development opportunities for teachers. This position will develop memos and draft communication as it pertains to district initiatives and curriculum and instruction projects. Supporting school-based staff with executing the vision for excellent instruction is a key component in this position.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree.
  • A valid Michigan Teaching Certificate in grade band and content area (high school math)
  • A minimum of 5 years teaching in content area to which you are applying for
  • Experience with principles of adult learning and how to apply them to professional development
  • Experience providing curriculum support to teachers in content area
  • Experience developing curriculum and pacing guides in content area
  • Strong working knowledge of the Michigan Mathematics Standards and shifts in the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics
  • Project management
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • High level of interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize appropriately
  • Ability to work independently
  • Proven organizational skills, high attention to details, and superior time management
  • Fluency with using digital tools including Microsoft Office and SharePoint
  • Ability to work effectively with district and school leaders
  • Ability to manage, monitor, evaluate, and ensure integrity of program and core instructional materials implementation
  • Growth mindset, with commitment to ongoing learning and willingness to be flexible to meet evolving educator needs.

Essential Functions

  1. Provide teachers with mentoring and training on the implementation of curriculum content areas, guidance documents, and pacing guidelines that are in alignment with state standards and the vision for excellent instruction to positively impact student achievement. 
  2. Assist teachers in the implementation of curriculum aligned to state standards.
  3. Draft communication as it pertains to ongoing professional development and curriculum initiatives.
  4. Ensure compliance with district policies and protocols related to professional development and curriculum initiatives.
  5. Draft and review curriculum materials for use in Social Studies classrooms
  6. Monitor and review existing and potential professional development programs to ensure they are aligned with the district mission and vision.
  7. Support school-based staff with executing the vision for excellent instruction through observing teachers, modeling lessons, and providing targeted professional development.
  8. Develop and execute professional development in core content areas, in alignment with the vision for excellent instruction.
  9. Develop and execute professional development designed to assist teachers with analyzing and acting upon student data from formative and summative standards-aligned assessments.
  10. Maintain thorough records and documentation of professional development and training sessions for teachers.
  11. Coordinate with professional development partners to enhance and support professional development workshops provided by district vendors.
  12. Fulfill other duties as allowable according to Title II, A guidelines.

Internal Applicants
