Position Title: Supervisor – ESE Central Office

Location: Fisher Building 

Salary: $71,708 - $89,238

Reports to: Senior Executive Director of Exceptional Student Education

Bargaining Unit: OSAS

In accordance with the agreement between the Organization of School Administrators (O.S.A.S.) and the Board of Education of the School District of the City of Detroit, Article 6.4, Promotion Procedure, the following vacancy is announced:

Position Summary: The ESE Program Supervisor has a micro-focus on programmatic implementation, compliance, curriculum use of appropriate curricular tools and team processes and training on district processes and procedures.  They are the direct line of problem-solving and support to the building-level staff and administrators as liaisons between the Office of Exceptional Student Education, WRESA and other Central Office Departments. 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Possess a master’s degree from an accredited college or university, hold or be qualified to receive full or temporary approval from the State Department as a special education supervisor.
  • Preparation must include systematic study and knowledge in following areas: child growth and development, learning theories and teaching methodologies and assessment of educational needs. 

Essential Functions

  1. Plans, assists in hiring, supervises and evaluates LEA special education personnel 
  2. Consults with building administrators, staff, parents and outside agencies regarding special education students and programs offered.  Responds to parents regarding the evaluation and placement of their children
  3. Plans professional learning activities
  4. Manages program/dept budgets assigned such as RESA, MDE and federal programs. Submits program documentation to appropriate agencies for approval including applications for grants, budgets and other financial reports
  5. Develops and administers the LEA special education budget
  6. Ensures compliance with local, state and federal guidelines
  7. Monitors staff caseloads and student progress
  8. Develops and maintains complete and cumulative individual records of all children receiving special services or who are enrolled in special classes
  9. Assists in the adaptation of school policies to include special education needs
  10. Keeps informed of all legal requirements governing special education
  11. Performs other duties as assigned

 

 

Security Clearance:

Internal Applicants

If you are a current Detroit Public Schools Community District employee, you do not have to submit to a new security clearance, unless your new role requires a different type of criminal background check.

External Applicants

In alignment with Michigan law, if you are hired to fill a position, you will be required to submit to a Detroit Public Schools Community District criminal background check. Information regarding required background checks will be shared at point of hire.
