Position Summary

The Digital Media Coordinator is a visual and audio storyteller, and will oversee the creation, development and production of District photography, video and audio content for internal and external marketing. These assets will be delivered in varied formats for broadcast, print and online distribution. These assets will be made available as needed for use on television/cable, radio, website, video/streaming, podcast, and all social media platforms. To capture assets, position will require travel to and from central office, school locations and potential external sites within Metro Detroit. Our goal is to communicate a unified message of who Detroit Public Schools Community District is and how we are working to educate and empower students through public education.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's in communications, digital arts or equivalent or post-secondary trade certification in media arts required.

 

Experience:

The ideal candidate:

  • 5+ years of relevant experience producing and editing audio and video, and photography for news, commercials, podcasts, documentaries and/or special broadcast projects
  • Proficient in using audio and video applications – Adobe Creative Suite: Premiere, After Effects, Audition, Photoshop, Illustrator
  • Highly proficient in using HD video camera, DSLR camera, lenses, light kits, audio boards and PA’s for production
  • Proficient in using key district applications– Office 365: Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Teams
  • Proficient in using web content management systems to embed video and audio
  • Experience understanding project requirements, managing and organizing multiple projects, and reporting status updates
  • Firm understanding of digital video and audio standards
  • Strong written communication skills including broadcast scriptwriting

 

Essential Functions

Under the direction of the Deputy Executive Director of Marketing (or designee), the Digital Media Coordinator will:

  • Develop broadcast quality audio and video programming that promotes district branding and initiatives for commercial use; key responsibilities include script writing, graphics, editing of audio and video, voice over and engineering broadcast ready content
  • Provide video coverage at assigned DPSCD public, promotional and celebratory events including press conferences, announcements, school events and school board meetings and functions
  • Schedule, produce, record and edit DPSCD radio and podcast programming
  • Oversee and maintain inventory of all department audio and video equipment
  • Develop, manage and document all district video and audio libraries
  • Support district requirements as it pertains to the development and placement of audio and video content on district and school websites, video channels, podcast streaming providers, and social media platforms
  • Supervise special broadcasts with outside media entities, photographers and video production interns
  • Serve as an advisor to schools as needed for audio/video programming and curriculum support
  • Supports the production, coordination, and promotion of district meetings, school-based meetings, community meetings, and off-site school-based events; availability beyond traditional workday hours may be required
  • Complete other duties as assigned

 

Security Clearance:

Internal Applicants

If you are a current Detroit Public Schools employee, presently employed with the district, you do not have to submit a fee related to obtaining the Detroit Public Schools security clearance, unless your new role requires a different type of security clearance.

External Applicants

If you are hired to fill a vacant position, you will be required to submit a Detroit Public Schools security clearance. At point of offer to hire, you will be responsible for a non-refundable payment of $64.50 via Visa, Master Card, American Express, Discover Card, cashier's check, or money order, payable to the DPSCD Police Department.
