Position Title:  Financial Specialist - Level IV- Payroll

Location: Central Office- Payroll Department

Salary: $20.31 - 27.60 (hourly)

Reports to:  Deputy Executive Director - Payroll

Bargaining Unit: DAEOE

Benefits Eligible: Yes

 

In accordance with the Agreement between American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (DAEOE) and the Board of Education of the School District of the City of Detroit, the following vacancy is announced. 

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED Certificate
  • Must have prior experience processing payroll with demonstrated leadership ability for a Payroll Group or a distinct functional area in a computerized payroll environment.

Essential Functions

  1.  Provide leadership for the Payroll Team or a distinct functional area including: Customer Service, Check Distribution, reporting and assisting with audit reports in the Payroll Processing and Financial Reporting area.
  2.  Assist with bi-weekly payroll processing.
  3.  Research and resolve employee pay related issues.
  4.  Maintain accurate employee data.
  5.  Monitor rate of production and work quality of a Payroll group or function.
  6.  Assist where required in meetings with outside units regarding proper payroll procedures.
  7.  Recommend improvements to payroll operations.
  8.  Give direction to proper unit or person for assistance.
  9.  Calculation of payments, deductions or retro pay.
  10.  Identification of time reported as worked or leave condition.
  11.  Give clarification regarding other payroll matters.
  12.  Process and enter deductions associated to paychecks or maintain and update system for processing and communicating data and customer concerns.
  13.  Maintain record files for assigned job.
  14.  Provide training to assigned Payroll or pay location staff regarding policy and procedures.
  15.  Perform other job-related duties as assigned by Payroll Director or designee.

 

Security Clearance:

Internal Applicants

If you are a current Detroit public schools employee, presently employed with the district, you do not have to submit a fee related to obtaining the Detroit public schools security clearance, unless your new role requires a different type of security clearance.

External Applicants

If you are hired to fill a vacant position, you will be required to submit a Detroit public schools security clearance. At point of offer to hire, you will be responsible for a non-refundable payment of $64.50 via Visa, Master Card, American Express, Discover Card, cashier's check, or money order, payable to the DPSCD Police Department. No personal checks or cash is accepted.
