Position Summary: The Enrollment Manager will play a critical role in growing enrollment in DPSCD schools across the city. The individual will work with the Deputy Executive Director of Enrollment and other district colleagues to design and implement strategies that support families throughout the enrollment experience, from generating interest in DPSCD, to selecting the best-fit school, to completing required enrollment processes. This individual will ensure that all enrollment processes and systems are clear, equitable, and efficient for families, and align effectively with other district departments and systems. The Enrollment Manager will develop and execute recruitment campaigns in coordination with schools and the Marketing team that connect families and communities with DPSCD schools. The Enrollment Manager will also work with Office of Enrollment colleagues to analyze enrollment and demographic trends to develop enrollment projections, inform recruitment strategies, and support DPSCD planning and policy. 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must possess and provide evidence of a Bachelor’s degree (or higher) from an accredited college or university; master’s degree is preferred.
  • Two (2) to four (4) years of experience working in a K-12 educational setting, preferably working in the area of student enrollment, school leadership, or community outreach.
  • Two (2) to four (4) years of successful project management and team management experience, preferably in a nonprofit, education, consulting and/or entrepreneurial environment working in settings that serve low-income students and communities.
  • At least one (1) year of experience successfully managing staff towards achieving ambitious outcomes.
  • Significant experience designing and implementing efficient, customer-service oriented processes.
  • Experience designing and continuously improving complex systems in unstructured environments, including codifying processes, procedures and policies to support systems.
  • Experience working with a CRM; familiarity with student information systems is preferred. 
  • Demonstrated success building trust and strong relationships with diverse stakeholders, including families and school leaders, across different communities. 
  • Experience analyzing large and complex data sets, and producing clear and easily understandable reports.
  • Willingness and ability to work non-standard hours including some evenings and weekends.
  • Fluency in all Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Visio, Access, Project); expert use of Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel locally.
  • Brings high-leverage skills, ideally including strong technical skills in areas that would build the capacity of the district, such as expertise with manipulating large data sets, HTML, SharePoint, or other project/knowledge management systems.

Essential Functions:

Under the direction of the Deputy Executive Director of Enrollment, the Enrollment Manager shall perform the following duties: 

Strategy and Process

  • Establish and manage a transparent, equitable, family-focused recruitment and enrollment strategy, as well as supporting processes for all non-selective DPSCD schools. Enrollment processes should be informed by and aligned with nationally recognized best practices. 
  • Codify process flows, operating principles, and protocols to ensure the implementation of efficient, high-quality enrollment processes in alignment with schools and other departments, particularly Student Information Services.
  • Develop and communicate administrative guidelines and internal procedures related to enrollment, ensuring that school-based staff and other departments understand and align to processes. 
  • Develop strong relationships with other departments, principals, clericals and school staff to support implementation of enrollment efforts. 
  • Work with Enrollment team to analyze city-wide enrollment trends, demographic trends and other relevant data sets; use findings to inform recruitment strategies, enrolment processes, and, as appropriate, other DPSCD policy decisions (e.g., new school openings and closures). 
  • Regularly review enrollment data to identify successes, uncover challenge areas, extrapolate trends and craft actionable, concrete improvements to the work.
  • Manage enrollment data to ensure accuracy in reporting, clean student records, and alignment with district student information systems.
  • Produce weekly application status reports, as well as longer-term reports, as requested. 
  • Collaborate closely with the Deputy Executive Director of Enrollment to build a positive, productive and focused team culture centered on providing outstanding support to Detroit’s families and schools and on growing DPSCD enrollment. 
  • Perform other duties and projects, as assigned. 

Recruitment and Retention Strategies

  • Design and implement sustainable recruitment strategies, including neighborhood- or community-based approaches, to increase family interest in DPSCD and help families identify schools that meet their needs.
  • Oversee targeted retention strategies and initiatives that maintain family commitment to DPSCD schools, particularly at key transition grades. 
  • Design specific strategies to support enrollment and retention of families at key transition grades, including Pre-K, Kindergarten, 6th and 9th grades.
  • Lead flagship enrollment initiatives. 
  • Coordinate with the marketing team to ensure that recruitment efforts are consistently and effectively branded and communicated. 
  • Empower schools to lead school-specific recruitment campaigns and develop relationships with families, ensuring alignment with broader DPSCD recruitment efforts.
  • Serve as a representative for DPSCD, attending community meetings and family-oriented events. 
  • Perform other duties and projects, as assigned. 

Family Support

  • Design tools and strategies to support families in navigating the enrollment process, including clear, timely communications, transparent guidelines, and responsive support systems.
  • Provide responsive, courteous, and helpful customer service to parents and students to ensure high levels of satisfaction and enrollment in DPSCD schools.
  • Perform other duties and projects, as assigned. 

 

Security Clearance:

Internal Applicants

If you are a current Detroit public schools employee, presently employed with the district, you do not have to submit a fee related to obtaining the Detroit public schools security clearance, unless your new role requires a different type of security clearance.

External Applicants

If you are hired to fill a vacant position, you will be required to submit a Detroit public schools security clearance.
