Location: Sampson-Webber Leadership Academy              

Salary: $11.78/hr. - $15.69/hr.

Reports to: Principal

Bargaining Unit: Detroit Association of Educational Office Employees (DAEOE)

In accordance with the Agreement between Detroit Association of Educational Office Employees (DAEOE) and the Board of Education of the School District of the City of Detroit, the following vacancy is announced.

Position Summary:

The clerical series level two main purpose is to coordinate day to day office functions while providing good customer service to students, staff, and visitors. The clerical will serve as a liaison to answer questions concerning current district policies and procedures. The clerical will create and organize a variety of reports, memos, letters, agendas, meeting minutes, newsletters, flyers, spreadsheets and other documents relevant to school operations. They must maintain accurate and appropriate records and files relative to the effective operation of the office. The clerical must also coordinate meetings, conferences, seminars, special events, travel arrangements and process related expenses.

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • High School Diploma or GED Certificate
  • Minimum of two (2) years of clerical/administrative experience
  • Proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint
  • Must possess good verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • External candidates must successfully complete a pre-eligibility assessment

Essential Functions: 

  1. Coordinate day-to-day office functions.
  2. Provide great customer service to students, staff and visitors by: 
    1. Greeting visitors.
    2. Answering telephones utilizing good phone etiquette.
    3. Taking messages and routing calls appropriately.
  3. Serve as liaison to provide and answer general information to students, parents, staff, and the community within delegated authority.
  4. Keep abreast of DPSCD Policies and Procedures in order to provide answers to pertinent questions for internal and external customers.
  5. Prepare, create and organize a variety of reports, memos, letters, agendas, meeting minutes, newsletters, flyers, spreadsheets, reports and other documents relevant to school operations utilizing Microsoft Office; Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint software programs.
  6. Ability to operate and maintain standard office equipment.
  7. Maintain accurate and appropriate records and files relative to the effective operation of the office; set up database(s), track files, purge files; Collect relevant student data, enter, update, and scan student data.
  8. Coordinate meetings, conferences, seminars, special events, travel arrangements and process related expenses and reimbursements.
  9. Process office mail, prepare and assist with bulk mailings.
  10. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

 

Security Clearance: 

Internal Applicants 

If you are a current Detroit Public Schools Community District employee, you do not have to submit to a new security clearance, unless your new role requires a different type of criminal background check. 

 

External Applicants 

In alignment with Michigan law, if you are hired to fill a position, you will be required to submit to a Detroit Public Schools Community District criminal background check. Information regarding required background checks will be shared at point of hire.
