Position Summary

The Assistant Director of Grant Accounting is responsible for overseeing the District’s Grant Accounting process and procedures. The position will work with the Business Office, Grant Compliance, Cash Management and other DPSCD stakeholders to ensure policies and procedures are in compliance with local, state, and federal guidelines.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervise and lead Grant Accounting department staff
  • Review and analyze the district’s financial data on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis for accuracy. Provide management with pertinent information for making decisions
  • Oversee district Grant Reimbursement process.
  • Prepare/Review Final Expenditure Reports as well as assist other district stakeholder by providing necessary documentation for grant reports.
  • Coordinate and serve as lead for the district’s annual Single Audit and other grant-related audits as identified by the Executive Director of the Business Office.
  • Work closely with the auditors and the staff in providing the required documentation to identify and correct problems throughout the year
  • Maintain district-prescribed records of all general ledger, financial and grant reporting as required
  • Supervise districts financial reporting and accounting activity for the Medicaid program  on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis
  • Prepare/Review the schedule of expenditures of federal awards
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, benchmarking state of the art practices and participating in professional societies.
  • Participate in the month-end and year-end closing of the general ledger and ensures balancing of all related revenue and A/R accounts
  • Ensures internal and external customers receive high quality service
  • Fulfill other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Chief Financial Officer, Executive Director Finance/Designee

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from a four (4) year college or university with a degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting or related field; plus five (5) years' professional accounting experience, including grant accounting in a large school system, municipality, or comparable environment, and to include three (3) years administrative or supervisory experience.

 

PREFERRED: Five (5) years’ experience in Michigan school finance with specific experience in accounting, budget, and/or accounts payable functions.
