Master’s Level – $79,289 Annual

Master’s +30 – $79,989 Annual

Doctorate - $80,289 Annual

In accordance with the Agreement between Detroit Federation of Teachers and the Board of Education of the School District of the City of Detroit, the following vacancy is announced.

Job Type Instructional (11.5 month contract position)

    • Preferred proficiency in Bengali and/or Hmong as a Second Language endorsement.

Education and Experience:

  • Preference will be given candidates with a Master’s Degree. 
  • A valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with an endorsement in Bilingual Ed/ ESL
  • Five (5) years of certified full-time teaching experience in bilingual Ed. or ESL area or a minimum of 3 years teaching bilingual ed. or ESL and 2 or more years of leadership experience.
  • Experience leading adults and developing professional learning opportunities for teachers.
  • Experience providing curriculum support to teachers in Bilingual Ed/ ESL.
  • Experience developing curriculum and instructional strategies for Bilingual/ESL
  • In-classroom direct instruction, teaching and instructional support.
  • Strong working knowledge of WIDA Standards, SIOP and ESL Best Practices.

Duties/Responsibilities & Functions:

  • Support the development of district curriculum and instructional strategies that are in alignment with state standards and our vision for excellent instruction.
  • Push into classrooms to provide needed supplemental support to English Language Learners with a specific target on students performing below a 2.9 on the WIDA.
  • Develop memos and draft communication as it pertains to district initiatives and curriculum and instruction projects
  • Execute assigned project plans and events.
  • Ensure compliance with district policies and protocols as it relates to partnerships, programming, and professional development.
  • Monitor and review existing and potential programs to ensure they are aligned with the district mission and vision.
  • Support school-based staff with executing the vision for excellent instruction
  • Assist with the development and execution of professional development for school-based staff.
  • Maintain thorough records and documentation of work on assigned projects.
  • Communicate with community partners and stakeholders. This includes but is not limited to attending meetings and district and non-district sponsored events.
  • Other duties as assigned.
