Location: Data, Assessment, and Accountability
Position Summary: As a member of the district’s Data Services team, the Data Analyst, Program Associate I works with the Deputy Executive Director and members of the team to develop, implement, and research data tools and frameworks on behalf of the District. The new and developing work of District-wide accountability systems are in direct support of our goal of raising performance through consistent and transparent understanding. The program associate will take initiative in answering analytical questions, and ensure that the team is engaging in thoughtful and data-driven work.
The program associate serves as a technical data expert responsible for providing top-tier analytical research to inform decisions. This role will be a great opportunity for exposure into the data trends of an urban school district representing over 50,000 students.
•Must possess and provide evidence of a Bachelor’s degree, and/or technical or equivalent experience in data science or statistical research
•Relevant data-related certifications are a plus
Experience: We are looking for talented people who are passionate about transforming the District and making a significant difference in the lives of public school students, parents, principals, teachers, and central office employees. This position requires:
•More than two (2) years’ experience in statistical research, data analysis, or program evaluation
•Proficiency and extensive experience in R, or another statistical package with interest in learning R
•Experience working with and manipulating large datasets (with millions of rows) and maintaining statistical code
•Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, having facility with pivot tables, nested functions and vlookups
•Experience in SQL is a plus
•Experience in Microsoft PowerBI is a plus
•Demonstrated experience compiling and maintaining technical documentation
•Understanding of applied statistics and experimental design
•Understanding of the education landscape
•Expertise and experience working in an urban public school district is a plus
Position Job Responsibilities: Under the direction of the Deputy Executive Director of Data Services, the Data Analyst, Program Associate I shall:
1.Perform analytical research on data trends in the district to guide direction of accountability system metrics
2.Produce summarized findings for Deputy Executive Director of Data Services and other stakeholders
3.Engage in requirement gathering process with local stakeholders (principals, teachers, support staff, administrators, district teams, etc.)
4.Develop methodological expertise on the calculation of school-level metric scores, to verify the work of developers and performing statistical due diligence
5.Run simulations on evaluation frameworks and proposed methodologies
6.Produce ad hoc analysis in response to questions internally and externally related to methodology
7.Develop and curate documentation internally and externally around business rules for metrics
8.Communicate clearly and effectively both in writing and presentation to stakeholder groups
9.Build effective relationships with staff members in different departments through meetings to gather information and produce school evaluations that are aligned to district priorities
10.Perform other duties as assigned by manager
