Duties and Responsibilities

Under the general supervision of the Principal/Designee the Noon Hour Aide may provide general staff support including:

Job Description/Functions:   


  1. Provide coverage in Lunch Room/Cafeteria during student lunch hours with minimum supervision.
  2. Monitor student activity in the lunchroom and lunchroom area, including standing and monitoring student’s entry and exit to lunchroom.
  3. Respond to incidents appropriately; notify administrator, provide written report of incidents.
  4. Ensure students follow rules set forth by administrators.
  5. Demonstrated ability to work well with high school students.
  6. Assist with monitoring students during lunch period.
  7. Provide excellent customer service to students, staff, parents, visitors, and the community.
  8. Perform other relevant duties and assignment


Qualifications / Experience:

  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Must possess good verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to exercise initiative, use good discretion and judgment, work as part of team, and work in a fast-paced environment with minimum direction.
  • Experience working with large groups of people, especially school age students preferred.
  • Good verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Excellent customer service and problem solving skills; ability to be flexible.
  • Mediation and conflict resolution skills.


Regular Attendance is critical; must have an exemplary attendance record.


Must be able to verify U.S. Citizenship, Resident Alien, or otherwise authorized to accept employment in the U.S.

Physical Condition:

Must be physically able to perform the duties and responsibilities outlined with or without accommodations. Prolonged period of standing and walking.





If you are a current Detroit Public Schools employee, presently employed with the district, you do not have to submit a fee related to obtaining the Detroit Public Schools Community District security clearance.



If you are hired to fill a vacant position, you will be required to submit a Detroit Public Schools Community District security clearance.
