In accordance with the Agreement between the Detroit Federation of Teachers (DFT) and the Board of Education of the School District of the City of Detroit, the following vacancy is announced.
Position Summary:
The Training and Support Coordinator will be responsible for providing teachers and master teachers with training on implementing our core curriculum in alignment with the vision of excellent instruction and School Improvement Plan (SIP) Goals. They will also be responsible for designing and delivering district-wide professional development and support teachers and school-based staff with analyzing and acting upon student data from formative and summative standards-aligned assessments.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s preferred
A valid Michigan Teaching Certificate in grade band and content area
A minimum of 5 years teaching in content area to which you are applying for
Experience with principles of adult learning and how to apply them to professional development
Experience providing curriculum support to teachers in content area
Experience developing curriculum and pacing guides in content area
Strong working knowledge of the Michigan English Language Arts Standards and shifts in the Common Core State Standards for ELA
Experience providing professional development to teachers

Essential Functions:
Under the direction of the Senior Director of K-8 Literacy, the Training and Support Coordinator will have the following key responsibilities:
Provide teachers with mentoring and training on the implementation of curriculum content areas, guidance documents, and pacing guidelines that are in alignment with state standards and the vision for excellent instruction to positively impact student achievement.
Assist teachers in the implementation of newly-adopted curriculum aligned to state standards.
Draft communication as it pertains to ongoing professional development and curriculum initiatives.
Ensure compliance with district policies and protocols related to professional development and curriculum initiatives.
Monitor and review existing and potential professional development programs to ensure they are aligned with the district mission and vision.
Support school-based staff with executing the vision for excellent instruction through observing teachers, modeling lessons, and providing targeted professional development.
Develop and execute professional development in core content areas, in alignment with the vision for excellent instruction.
Develop and execute professional development designed to assist teachers with analyzing and acting upon student data from formative and summative standards-aligned assessments.
Maintain thorough records and documentation of professional development and training sessions for teachers.
Coordinate with professional development partners to enhance and support professional development¿workshops¿provided by district vendors.
Fulfill other duties as allowable according to Title II, A guidelines.
