Position Summary:
As a significant member of the District’s Data Services department, the Business Analyst works with the Deputy Executive Director and members of the team to ensure that continuous improvement and continuous development of data solutions aligns to the needs of school and central office end users. The Business Analyst will be responsible for understanding the end user’s needs through proactive engagement, and then following a structured process to translate those needs into business requirement specifications that are used by the team to create extensible and scalable solutions.

Creating user-friendly reporting solutions that deliver actionable data to stakeholders to improve outcomes and performance;
Building and maintaining business intelligence for reporting on the central work of school improvement
Navigating complex data problems and implementing solutions to improve data governance across the organization, empowering analysts and researchers to pull data and answer questions accurately and efficiently;
Warehousing the data into infrastructure that sustainably stores district data for decades to come and enables security and proper access.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree, with preferred focus in an information technology field, e.g., Computer Science, Information Sciences, Information Systems, and/or technical or equivalent experience in a related field
Experience: 3 or more years of full-time work experience in business analysis with an emphasis on student information systems (such as PowerSchool) and/or ERP systems

Experience working in or with an urban public school district
Experience working with end users to gather requirements and build technical solutions from concept to implementation
Ability to translate business requirements into business rules definitions and analytical reporting tools
Ability to think conceptually using strong analytical skills and distill complex technical information into clear business language
Exceptional interpersonal skills to interact with a diverse set of stakeholder groups
Ability to communicate effectively to executive-level staff and department leaders across functional areas
Proven ability to effectively project manage multiple projects against established milestones and deliverables
Comfort working in a fast-paced and ambiguous environment, with an ability to prioritize work and context-shift quickly
Strong writing skills and experience with technical writing and documentation
Preferred Qualifications
Familiarity with database concepts, cloud data solutions, and data visualizations
Certified Scrum Master, or experience working in agile project management (Scrum methodology) and advocating for agile principles within an organization
Essential Functions:
Lead requirement gathering and relationship management with local stakeholders – specifically bridging relationships between technical and non-technical project members (principals, administrators, district teams, etc.)
Act as product owner on key department deliverables: DataCom dashboard suite, School Grades (the District’s school performance evaluation tool), and school-based role-specific dashboards
Monitor how data solutions are meeting users’ existing and future needs, and promote elegant and sustainable development that supports multiple business areas
Analyze and decompose relevant business processes, understanding delivery dates and delineation of roles and responsibilities
Develop and maintain documentation for business rules and system changes to ensure continuity and ease of use
Provide ongoing training and support to users on the new systems and dashboards to ensure effective adoption and utilization
Manage communications strategy related to solution delivery
Translate requirements specifications into user stories that define the success criteria for developers to create and test
Facilitate team members in design thinking process to develop extensible and scalable solutions that are centered around the needs of the end user
Ensure that proposed test solutions cover all aspects of delivered business specification and support with planning and execution of unit, integration, and acceptance testing
Demonstrate an effective approach to team¿building including clarity of purpose and shared responsibility, valuing, soliciting, and integrating team members’ different perspectives
Lead cross-functional teams in periodic review sessions to iteratively improve data solutions
Perform other duties as assigned by manager
