In accordance with the Agreement between Teamsters, and the Board of Education of the School District of the City of Detroit, the following vacancy is announced.
Position Summary:
Detectives are plainclothes investigators who gather evidence, investigate crimes, and violations of State and Federal Laws. They conduct interviews, examine records, observe the activities of suspects, and execute search warrants. Detectives conduct interviews to obtain statements from complainants, witnesses, and suspects.
Minimum Qualifications:
Must possess great communication skills and be tactful when dealing with others
Must be self-motivated and accountable
Must be computer proficient (Microsoft office suite, TLO, TALON etc)
Must be MCOLE's Certified
Must be able to interpret and apply complex laws and testify in a Court of Law
Must be available to be On Call at least once or twice a month
Must be able to work alone or in a group at times with minimal supervision
Must be able to effectively plan and organize workload, and prioritize task completion to meet schedules and deadlines
Must be able to tag evidence and other property properly
Must be able to provide all details of assigned Investigations to Supervisor
Must record and maintain all files for various suspects and provide an update to supervisors in a timely manner
Maintain communication with the victim(s) and keep current file with address, phone, and place of employment
Must be able to analyze and maintain a record of all evidence and maintain files on all investigations to be presented in court
Essential Functions:
Coordinate cases, plan and organize work activities and prioritize task completion
Maintain case files, prepare reports, and compose correspondence relative to Investigations
Ensure the promptness and accuracy of submitted Investigations
Testify in court as an expert witness
Communicate information clearly and concisely
Work with other Law Enforcement Agencies, and the Prosecutors Office
Conduct criminal investigations ranging from crimes against person(s) and property, to sex crimes, burglary, threats or homicide and the ability to make arrest when necessary
Knowledge of laws and Law Enforcement within the Detroit Public Schools
Knowledge of how to deal with juvenile and adult offenders
Knowledge of DPSPD employee policy and procedures, rules, regulations, and directives¿

Basic interview skills and ability to grow as an Investigator
Possess great communication skills and be tactful when dealing with others
Interpret and apply complex laws and testify in a Court of Law
Security Clearance:
Internal Applicants
If you are a current Detroit Public Schools Community District sworn Public Safety Officer, you do not have to submit to a new security clearance, unless your new role requires a different type of criminal background check.
External Applicants
In alignment with Michigan law, if you are hired to fill a position, you will be required to submit to a Detroit Public Schools Community District criminal background check. Information regarding required background checks will be shared at point of hire.¿¿
