Position Title: Day Trade Teacher, Mechatronics

Location: Breithaupt Career and Technical Center

Salary: Salary Schedule #1 for certified teachers ($55,000-$94,000)

             Salary Schedule #2 ($38,500- $73,083)

Reports to: Principal  

Bargaining Unit: Detroit Federation of Teachers (DFT)

Benefits Eligible: Yes  

Telecommuting Eligibility: School-based. Not eligible for telecommuting.

In accordance with the Agreement between Detroit Federation of Teachers (DFT) and the Board of Education of the School District of the City of Detroit, the following vacancy is announced.

Position Summary: The Day Trade Teacher offers rigorous curriculum in a specialized trade aligned with the State of Michigan Common Core guidelines while upholding the mission, vision and values of the Detroit Public Schools Community District. Collaborates with families and other staff members to ensure academic success of students. Evaluates and monitors students’ progress on a periodic basis.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Candidate must have a minimum of four (4) years or (8000 hours) work experience and extensive knowledge-base of the Mechatronics industry. Must be able to verify a minimum of four (4) years of recent and relevant occupational experience in the field of Mechatronics The experience must be within six (6) years of application. Competency-based curriculum development experience desired. The right candidate must be student-focused and foster a positive student-learning environment. Valid Vocational Teaching Certificate, Interim Occupation Education Certificate, Full Vocational Authorization, or Occupation Education Teaching Certificate with appropriate endorsement for vocational curriculum area required.

 Essential Functions:

  1. Creation/implementation of curriculum and Lesson plan preparation.
  2. Complete, proper, and accurate recording of student paperwork
  3. Comply with DPSCD/State mandates for high school students Develop curricula, instruct students in a classroom setting in ground-school classes on the basics of the vocational content.
  4. Develop instructional modules to include a broad range of topics such as operation procedures, trade systems.
  5. Determine student proficiency, report on student progress, and develop new teaching methods that help prepare for the written test they can expect to face when applying for their license.
  6. Provide practical training relevant to areas covered during theory lessons.
  7. Design and utilize training manuals, equipment, course materials and other supporting materials to provide instruction as per applicable policies and procedures.
  8. Organize and conduct cockpit familiarization classes and prepare reports on student’s proficiency based on established parameters.
  9. Maintain student progress report and provide special coaching and counseling for students.
  10. Develop innovative techniques, training aids and method to improve training efficiency.
  11. Provide expertise knowledge to instructional system designers and develop classroom materials, classroom lessons, instructor and student guides and other training materials.
  12. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor. 

Security Clearance: 

Internal Applicants 

If you are a current Detroit Public Schools Community District employee, you do not have to submit to a new security clearance, unless your new role requires a different type of criminal background check.
