Salary:  $76,484 - $103,799

Reports to: Deputy Superintendent, Operations 

Bargaining Unit: N/A

Telecommuting Eligibility:  Eligible for up to 20% telecommuting. 

Position Summary: 
As a member of the DPSCD’s Operations Team, the Assistant Director, Office of Operations is responsible for defining, planning, tracking, and managing multiple projects with accuracy. The position is also responsible for assigning, reviewing, and tracking work orders for Central Office locations, supporting logistics for the Office of Operations meetings/special events, and supporting the Deputy Superintendent’s initiatives, strategic goals, and daily activities. The Assistant Director, Office of Operations is collaborative, highly organized, attentive, thinker who seeks, internalizes, and applies district policies and procedures as well as DPSCD’s strategic direction. This role also requires the ability to prioritize an array of professional tasks and projects concurrently yet meet deadlines.   

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university required; master’s degree preferred; 

  • At least 2 years experience and track record of success in developing cross-departmental project plans including goals, milestones, dates, and responsibilities using AI or project management software and tools; 

  • Ability to create detailed reports integrating multiple technological programs 

  • Demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively with District staff and external stakeholders in a professional manner; 

  • Skilled in the core project and program management competencies with demonstrated accountability for the successful planning, execution, and close out of small and large scale projects; 

  • Experience and proficiency with Microsoft 365 platforms including: SharePoint, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, Qualtrics, Automate, Forms etc.  

  • Experience in developing and publishing external and internal communication through web platforms (preferred); 

  • Knowledge of an ERP system People Soft 9.0+ (preferred) 

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to engage and present information across stakeholder groups; 

  • Experience drafting communication on behalf of key organizational leaders;  

  • Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision yet meet all deliverables on schedule; 

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills;  

Position Job Responsibilities: 

Under the direction of the Deputy Superintendent, Operations, the Assistant Director Office of Operations will engage in the following Essential Functions: 

  1. Assist with the development and implementation of the department’s strategic plan initiatives, including goals and objectives with measurable outcomes, optimizing project management to support the District’s strategic plan.  

  1. Lead and execute the full project management cycle by defining, planning, tracking and managing projects for the Deputy Superintendent, Operations and Office of Operations. 

  1. Develop and monitor project plans for the Office of Operations including the Central Office Crisis Plan, Superintendent and Office of Operations appreciation events, Onboarding process, Central Office maintenance schedules, PCN allocations, Operations Leaders annual, quarterly, monthly, and weekly report submissions, and Cabinet level projects. 

  1. Coordinate planning and execution of initiatives with other district divisions and offices collaboratively. 

  1. Develop a streamlined process to coordinate travel arrangements and submit travel documentation within the Office of Operations. 

  1. Create and monitor processes to capture and seamlessly report accurate attendance and district purchase card documentation across multiple divisions, offices, and departments.  

  1. Develop accountability and goals-tracking structures for tasks, deliverables, and adherence to project timelines to ensure projects such as onboarding, concept approvals, and administrative guidelines stay on-track. 

  1. Develop, implement and maintain data and reporting systems to provide real-time displays of pertinent information related to the core initiatives Office of Operations.  

  1. Work with the Deputy Superintendent to craft internal and external communications on a weekly, monthly, and quarterly basis. 

  1. Produce high quality reports, presentations and data displays for review and analysis by District stakeholders.  

  1. Process and maintain highly classified information with a spirit of discretion. 

  1. Perform other duties as assigned by Deputy Superintendent, Operations  

Security Clearance:  

Internal Applicants  

If you are a current Detroit Public Schools Community District employee, you do not have to submit to a new security clearance, unless your new role requires a different type of criminal background check.
