Position Title: Curriculum Leader, PreK 

Location: Adult Education West 

Salary Range:  $96,069.00 - $107,371.00

Reports to: Deputy Executive Director of Early Learning 

Bargaining Unit: OSAS 

Benefits Eligible: Yes  

Telecommuting Eligibility: Site based. Not eligible for telecommuting
 

Position Summary: 

A significant member of the Curriculum & Instruction and Early Learning & Montessori teams, the PreK Curriculum Leader leads the development, implementation, and oversight of the Early Learning curriculum and instruction across schools with PreK classrooms. The PreK Curriculum Leader also collaborates across departments to improve PreK access and education for the students of Detroit. This role includes overseeing a caseload of PreK classrooms as well as PreK Training and Support Coordinators (TSCs). Ideal candidates will demonstrate understanding of and experience with the following:  

  • The Creative Curriculum for Preschool 

  • GSRP and Michigan Child Care Licensing Requirements 

  • Instructional coaching 

Early Childhood Specialist requirements 
 
Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or related field from an accredited college or university 

  • Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education or related field from an accredited college or university preferred 

  • Valid State of Michigan Administrator Certificate, preferred  

  • Teaching Certificate in related content area – PreK endorsement highly preferred 

  • Early Childhood ZA/ZS Endorsement 

  • Five years PreK classroom teaching experience required. 

  • At least 3 years instructional leadership experience highly preferred  

Essential Functions:

  1. Assist in the achievement of the district’s vision, mission, and values related to excellent PreK instruction and classroom environments. 

  1. Serve as Early Childhood Specialist (ECS) for a cohort of PreK classrooms to provide consistent professional embedded support through instructional coaching and lesson modeling. 

  1. Design and facilitate engaging, relevant professional learning workshops for families, administrators, educators, and support staff with varying levels of PreK experience.  

  1. Lend expertise to evaluate, craft, revise, and procure instructional materials, assessments, resources, and guidance documents for practitioners.  

  1. Work alongside teachers, leaders, and external consultants to guide the implementation of district approved PreK curriculum, including accompanying assessments, and instructional materials. 

  1. Collaborate with teachers and leaders in the PreK student enrollment process. 

  1. Provide leadership to, and appraise staff performance of PreK team members, including Training and Support Coordinators.

  1. Gather and analyze data to evaluate the effectiveness of the PreK programs and propose refinements to strategies for improvement. 

  1. Contribute toward the development and implementation of a Tactical Improvement Plan at all assigned schools; serve as a cross-content area leader to organize and implement coordinated central team school supports aligned to the Tactical Improvement Plan.   

  1. Support the implementation of programs that foster student interest and excitement for learning; positively engage PreK staff, school leaders, other departments, and families as partners in students’ success.  

  1. Demonstrate a commitment to antiracism and the affirmation of student and staff identities, center racial equity and inclusion, and bring practical solutions to issues of equity and inclusion in classrooms, schools and on the team. 

  1. Fulfill other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.
