Position Title: Great Start Readiness Program Pre-K- Noon Hour Aide

Location: Various Locations

Salary Range: $15.60/hr. 

Reports to: Principal

Bargaining Unit: Detroit Federation of Para Professionals

In accordance with the Agreement between the Detroit Federation of Para Professionals and the Board of Education of the School District of the City of Detroit, the following vacancy is announced.

Position Summary:

The GSRP Noon Hour Aide provides assistance to Pre-Kindergarten students in their classroom during lunch times to ensure a safe environment.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must possess and provide evidence of high school diploma or GED certification.
  • Ability to exercise initiative, use good discretion and judgment, work as part of team, and work in a fast-paced environment with minimum direction.
  • Working with large groups of people, especially prekindergarten students preferred.
  • Excellent customer service and problem-solving skills; ability to be flexible.
  • Good mediation and conflict resolution skills a plus.

Essential Functions:

  1. Provide coverage in the pre-kindergarten classroom during lunch with minimum supervision.
  2. Sit with the students for a family style meal to encourage conversation and discussions about the food.
  3. Prepare foods in serving containers for the students to serve themselves.
  4. Support students as they set the table and as they clean up after the meal.
  5. Ability to work well with students and staff.
  6. Assist with escorting and monitoring students during lunch period and outside recess.
  7. Assist students with setting down and picking up cots for rest-time.
  8. Provide excellent customer service to students, staff, parents, visitors, and the community.
  9. Clean the refrigerator weekly and document refrigerator/freezer temperature twice daily.
  10. Rotate foods (using older foods first).
  11. Clean and sanitize tables and food prep area according to State of Michigan licensing 3 step process.
  12. Attend all city-wide in-service activities and sessions related to your job description.
  13. Obtain 24 hours of Professional Development per school year including but not limited to: CPR/First Aid, Blood Borne Pathogen, Food Safety, Diversity and Licensing as appropriate.
  14. Perform all other duties assigned by supervisor.

Security Clearance:

Internal Applicants

If you are a current Detroit Public Schools Community District employee, you do not have to submit to a new security clearance, unless your new role requires a different type of criminal background check.
