In accordance with the Agreement between Detroit Federation of Teachers (DFT) and the Board of Education of the School District of the City of Detroit, the following vacancy is announced.
A Master Teacher is an exceptional practitioner who leads from the classroom and cultivates their peers’ ability to deliver excellent instruction and increase student achievement. Master Teachers are not administrators, nor do they take on administrative roles. Beginning the 2023-24 school year, Master Teachers will teach a full load of courses, but still serve as a demonstration classroom, member of the ILT team and lead professional learning for their peers. Master teachers can provide coaching support to individual teachers if release time is provided.
A major goal of DPSCD Master Teachers is to improve a team of teachers’ abilities to effectively plan for and deliver high-quality instruction in pursuit of better outcomes for students through common planning, professional development and individualized teacher support. By creating distributive leadership structures in schools, Master Teachers — in collaboration with school leaders — will increase opportunities for feedback and growth to drive increased student achievement, while building their own capacity as leaders.
Candidates who meet the certification and experience requirements will receive an email with the link to the second part of the Master Teacher application. Candidates who successfully pass the Master Teacher application and screening process will be placed on the eligibility list to interview at a school site.
Master Teachers will receive confirmation of placement once selected by a school.
