In accordance with the Agreement between Detroit Federation of Teachers and the Board of Education of the School District of the City of Detroit, the following vacancy is announced. 

Position Summary: 

The Training and Support Coordinator position will develop resources to support teachers in best instructional practices in alignment with state standards and our vision for excellent instruction. These resources include professional development opportunities for teachers. This position will develop memos and draft communication as it pertains to district initiatives and curriculum and instruction projects. Supporting school-based staff with executing the vision for excellent instruction is a key component in this position.  

Minimum Qualifications:¿ 

  • Master’s degree preferred. Bachelor’s degree required. 
  • A valid Michigan Teaching Certificate in K-5, K-8 or 6-12 Mathematics 
  • A minimum of 5 years teaching in content area to which you are applying for 
  • Experience with principles of adult learning and how to apply them to professional development 
  • Experience providing curriculum implementation support to teachers in Mathematics 
  • Strong working knowledge of the Michigan Mathematics Standards and shifts in the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics 
  • Candidates must possess a valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with either a K-5 (All Subject), K-8 (All Subjects) endorsement or an “EX” endorsement in grades 6-12 Mathematics. 

Essential Functions:¿ 

Under the direction of the Senior Director of Mathematics, the Training & Support Coordinator will: 

  1. Provide teachers with mentoring and training on the implementation of curriculum content areas, guidance documents, and pacing guidelines that are in alignment with state standards and the vision for excellent instruction to positively impact student achievement.   
  1. Assist teachers in the implementation of newly adopted curriculum aligned to state standards. 
  1. Draft communication as it pertains to ongoing professional development and curriculum initiatives. 
  1. Ensure compliance with district policies and protocols related to professional development and curriculum initiatives. 
  1. Monitor and review existing and potential professional development programs to ensure they are aligned with the district mission and vision. 
  1. Support school-based staff with executing the vision for excellent instruction through observing teachers, co-planning and modeling lessons, and providing targeted professional development. 
  1. Develop and execute professional development in core content areas, in alignment with the vision for excellent instruction. 
  1. Develop and execute professional development designed to assist teachers with analyzing and acting upon student data from formative and summative standards-aligned assessments. 
  1. Maintain thorough records and documentation of professional development and training sessions for teachers. 
  1. Coordinate with professional development partners to enhance and support professional development workshops provided by district vendors. 
  1. Work effectively with District and school leaders by displaying a high level of interpersonal and communication skills. 
  1. Manage projects in the Office of Mathematics that requires an ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize. 
  1. Work independently while displaying organizational skills, high attention to details, and superior time management. 
  1. Actively contribute towards creating an inclusive and collaborative environment within the Office of Mathematics department, as well as within the Division of Strategy and Academics.     
  1. Effectively and efficiently use digital tools including Office 356, SharePoint, Schoology, et. al. 
  1. Fulfill other duties as assigned by supervisor and allowable according to Title II, A guidelines.

Internal Applicants
