Position Title: Assistant Director – Financial Reporting
Location: Office of School Nutrition, 1601 Farnsworth Building Detroit, MI 48211
Salary: $73,542 to $99,807 
Reports to: Executive Director of School Nutrition  
Bargaining Unit: N/A

Position Summary:

The Assistant Director oversees the financial reporting and federal reimbursement claims. They also assumes responsibility and accountability for the implementation of complex plans, schedules, and budgets for large scale, district wide nutrition services programs, as well as supporting operational systems. The Assistant Director ensures compliance with all federal and state regulations and oversees state and federal compliance for administrative reviews and audits.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Business Administration, Finance, Restaurant Management, Management or related field required
  • Master’s degree preferred
  • A minimum of ten (10) years of work in hospitality management; 2+ years in a role performing data analytics.
  • Competencies, knowledge, and skill of basic financial management principles.
  • Must know importance of operating a cost-effective program.
  • Must know relationship of program cost and program revenue.
  • Must know methods and purposes of calculating program costs, such as food, supplies, labor, operating, and special events.
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Solid financial acumen

 

EssentialJob Functions:

 

  1. Develop internal controls to increase financial accountability and provide benchmarks to objectively measure progress toward achieving program goals
  2. Implements a system of checks and balances to ensure accuracy and to prevent fraud.
  3. Always implements security measures when handling cash or meal benefit identifiers.
  4. Ensures that all personnel responsible for meal count and cash collection operations are properly trained and authorized.
  5. Manages the Point-of-Sale software, central office and school based.
  6. Michigan Department of Education Administrative Review compliance/oversight
  7. Nation School Lunch Program NSLP, Child and Adult Care Food Program CACFP, and Summer Food Service Program SFSP claims submission oversight.
  8. Household Information Report oversight and management.
  9.  Perform other job-related responsibilities as assigned

 

Security Clearance: 

Internal Applicants 

If you are a current Detroit Public Schools Community District employee, you do not have to submit to a new security clearance, unless your new role requires a different type of criminal background check.
