In accordance with the Agreement between the Detroit Federation of Teachers (DFT) and the Board of Education of the School District of the City of Detroit, the following vacancy is announced.

Position Summary:

The Adult Ed Evening Teacher offers rigorous mathematics instruction in a virtual environment to Adult Ed Students while upholding the mission, vision and values of the Detroit Public Schools Community District. The teacher will work an adjusted flex work

schedule from 12:45pm-8:05pm, Monday through Friday. The teacher will provide customized instructional plans via GradPoint through content expertise found through the Mathematics certification and be available via office hours to provide intervention and support to Adult Ed Students.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
  • Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate in Secondary Mathematics.
  • Must have experience working with adult learners.

Essential Functions

  1. Assist with outreach, student registration and in-take process, including student assessment reviews, digital literacy assessment.
  2. Conduct posttest assessments.
  3. Adhere to policies and protocols established for the Adult Education department.
  4. Utilize data to provide customized instructional and intervention plans for students.
  5. Work with Adult Education team to implement best practices to meet the funding metrics of enrollment, performance, and posttest rate.
  6. Develop lesson plans and maintain up to date Individual Education Plans based on the student individual requirements.
  7. Conduct a combination of live and self-paced GED instruction combining instructional lessons that integrate with Kaplan and Gradpoint.
  8. Monitor student progress and provide student data to the Adult Education team.
  9. Maintain attendance and program reports.
  10. Provide both class instruction and tutoring.
  11. Facilitate small group and whole group mathematics lessons based on learning gaps as determined by the assessment data.
  12. Provide one-to-one support to students to keep them engaged and motivated to reach their learning goals.
  13. Participate in Data meetings with leadership team members that are driven by goals for the Adult Ed Students and overall class.
  14. Assist students with technology and connectivity issues.
  15. Strive to support students to achieve their GED.
  16. Work collaboratively with the Detroit at Work Career Coaches to provide the necessary support to the Adult Ed Students.
  17. Participate in Professional Learning Committees and Adult Ed Professional Development.
  18. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor or designee.

Security Clearance:

Internal Applicants

If you are a current Detroit Public Schools Community District employee, you do not have to submit to a new security clearance, unless your new role requires a different type of criminal background check.
