Position Title: Curriculum Leader – Social Studies

Salary Range: $88,400 – $98,800

Reports to: Senior Director of K-12 Social Studies

Position Funding: This position is funded through a specialized grant from the Jordan Brand, a division of Nike. The position will expire on June 30, 2025 and is not guaranteed to be funded beyond that date. Prior to the expiration of the funding, your employment with the District will be non-renewed unless you are offered a funded position for the following fiscal year.

Position Summary:

Curriculum Leaders are critical members of the Curriculum and Instruction team. For this position, the Social Studies Curriculum Leader will support the development, implementation, and growth of a Personal Finance elective course in our high schools. The Social Studies Curriculum Leader will spend time developing curriculum guidance using our new Personal Finance curriculum, support the implementation of that curriculum through school support with teachers, and work to expand the elective to all of our high schools’ district wide.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree (or higher) from an accredited college or university
• Valid State of Michigan Administrator Certificate highly preferred
• Valid Teaching Certificate in related content area highly preferred
• K-12 classroom teaching experience required, with at least 5 years’ experience preferred
• At least 3 years instructional leadership experience highly preferred

Essential Functions:

1. Assist in the achievement of the mission, goals and objectives of Detroit Public Schools Community District;

support school staff to implement DPSCD’s vision for excellent instruction through the instructional framework.

2. Work with assigned content area leader, cohort leader, and principals to guide the implementation of the curriculum program, intervention and acceleration, and assessment; work with content area and school leaders to design and facilitate strong school support and professional development offerings, including job-embedded supports for educators.
3. Serve as a lead across the high school cohort to coordinate efforts to ensure alignment, prioritization, and coordination of the curricular program.
4. Help supervise all tiers of the instructional program at assigned schools, to provide assistance to individual staff members to improve instructional skills; provide information and leadership in the development and implementation of school level-goals, action plans, instructional techniques, and innovative practices
5. Contribute toward the development of instructional materials, assessments, resources, and guidance documents for practitioners.
6. Support the implementation of programs that foster student interest and excitement for learning; positively

engage families as partners in students’ success.

7. Gather and analyze data to evaluate the effectiveness of this curricular program and propose refinements to strategy and approach to program improvement, materials, and professional learning as a result.
8. Demonstrate a commitment to antiracism and the affirmation of student and staff identities, center racial equity and inclusion, and bring practical solutions to issues of equity and inclusion in classrooms, schools and on the team
9. Fulfill other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.
