In accordance with the Agreement between the Detroit Federation of Teachers (DFT) and the Board of Education of the School District of the City of Detroit, the following vacancy is announced.

Position Summary:

The Training and Support Coordinator of Early Childhood is responsible for improving the academic experience and outcomes of all Prek GSRP DPSCD students. Through observation and feedback, the TSC supports teaching teams and site administrators to provide high-quality preschool with fidelity to the GSRP model. The TSC confidently advocates for children, families and teachers to ensure appropriate decisions are made about the program. The TSC provides coaching to teaching teams, visits classrooms when children are present, and makes sure that grant expectations, are met around the learning environment, daily routine, adult-child interactions, and partnerships with families.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) from an accredited college or university\
  • Teaching Certificate in related content area, PreK endorsement preferred.
  • PreK-12 classroom teaching experience required, with at least 5 years’ experience in Early Childhood preferred
  • Experience teaching or leading in a PreK-Early learning environment
  • Experience with principles of adult learning and how to apply them to professional development
  • Experience providing curriculum support to teachers in PreK learning environments
  • Experience providing community support to parents of students in PreK learning environments
  • Experience supporting school leaders and teachers with developing a high quality PreK learning program

Essential Functions:

  1. Provide teachers with mentoring and training on the implementation of Early Childhood curriculum, guidance documents, and pacing guidelines that are in alignment with the Early Childhood Standards of Quality for Pre-Kindergarten (ECSQ-PK).
  2. Provide teachers with mentoring and training on GSRP requirements as outlined in the GSRP Implementation Manual.
  3. Draft communication as it pertains to district initiatives and GSRP and Early Learning projects.
  4. Ensure compliance with district policies and protocols as it relates to partnerships, programming, and professional development.
  5. Monitor and review existing and potential professional development programs to ensure they are aligned with the district mission and vision.
  6. Support school-based staff with executing an ECSQ-PK program and Essential Instructional Practices in Early Literacy.
  7. Develop and execute professional development.
  8. Maintain thorough records and documentation of professional development and school support.
  9. Coordinate with professional development partners to enhance and support professional development workshops provided by district vendors. 
  10. Fulfill other duties as allowable according to Title II, A guidelines.

Internal Applicants
